People come up with excuses all the time but in reality they just don’t want to do it. These types of people are called victims. According to Dr. Downing “Victims are people who don’t feel they can affect things that happen to them and therefore are likely to wait passively to experience outcomes in their lives”. People that are willing to do a task without hesitation are a creator. Dr. Downing says “Creators are people who consistently make the choices that lead to the outcomes they desire, in other words they create the lives they wish to live” (Downing, 42). Today people are still living as the victim or as the creator and some people change for the best.

“Rather than continuing as a Victim, resolve to become a creator” (Mirman). In Professor David Mirman blog he asked his students to get the materials that they need next time the class meets. Two students went to the bookstore to find the materials which the bookstore did not have in stock. The one student stopped looking and decided to blame the bookstore for not having the supplies. While the other student was still searching for the materials, she had called and went to different bookstores. Unfortunately none of the bookstores had the book she needed. The student didn’t give up, she went online and found the book she needed for a cheaper price and had it delivered to her within two days. Next time her class met she told her teacher hoe she got her book online and for a cheaper price, while the other student blamed the bookstore for not having the book he needed.

A Victim is someone that has excuses for every little thing. Well unfortunately I played the victim throughout school. One year I did not do my homework for my English class and I was going to but I kept putting it off. Until one night I was really determined to do it but I fell asleep. The next morning when it was time for school I forgot I didn’t do my homework I thought of ways I can get out of it. I thought about skipping class or going to school early to finish my assignment. My best option was to come up with excesses, but time was running out so I said my sister threw up on my homework. At the time I thought it was a reasonable excuse. During class time my teacher pulled me out and asked why I didn’t do my homework and I stuck to my story. I knew she didn’t believe me but she didn’t say anything else to me.

A Creator is someone who will do a task without hesitation even when it gets hard. I see my mom as a creator because she has taught all her children that life is hard and there’s always away to make it better. Granted there were hard times and she would get angry or upset. But she never showed her true feelings when we werearound. For example, my mom would wake up early to get dressed, make breakfast and then wake us up and do me and my sister’s hair and take us to school.  Another example is when my dad would be overseas and she would go to work and school and then come home to spend time with all four kids. Then she would stay up until midnight to finish her homework just so she could wake up the next morning to do it all over again.

As I said before I played the Victim role and it did get me through high school but I wouldn’t get anywhere in life by making up excuses and blaming someone else. I want be a creator so I can be successful not only in college but in my future. Seeing myself as a creator opens more doors for my future. The only way I can succeed is if I keep pushing myself and try my best.
